The Northern Forest Canoe Trail offers paddlers a wide range of challenges, including sections of moving water and rapids that can be paddled or portaged. Developing confidence in moving water can significantly improve efficiency on the trail while increasing safety and reducing the risk of injury or equipment loss.

This two-day course is designed to teach the skills needed to safely navigate up to Class III rapids. Participants will gain both practical on-water experience and essential decision-making tools for traveling in dynamic river environments.

Course overview:

• Day 1 focuses on foundational moving water paddling skills, including boat control and technique development.

• Day 2 takes place on local rivers where participants will apply those skills while navigating rapids in real conditions.
